On June 24,1947, Idaho businessman Kenneth Arnold took off from the Chehalis airport and while over Mineral, WA witnessed nine “flying disks” near Mt. Rainier. From his report, the term “flying saucer” was coined. This fueled a phenomenon across the country as more people came forward to share their accounts of strange objects in the sky.

On June 24th, 1947 private airplane pilot, Kenneth Arnold, flew out of the Chehalis Airport toward his home in Boise, Idaho. Over the town of Mineral, WA, he spotted 9 flying craft in the area of Mt. Rainier. These craft flew and maneuvered like no known aircraft. Arnold’s report soon captured the public imagination and gave birth to the term “flying saucer”. 75 years later, we are preparing to celebrate Arnold’s immeasurable contribution to UFOlogy and pop culture with the first annual Chehalis Flying Saucer Party.
